Joel is Director of Web Communications at the University of Virginia's McIntire School of Commerce. In this role, Joel identifies best practices for content delivery, develops online content for target audiences and ensures a consistent graphic identity across all digital products. Joel manages the school's online brand expression and user experience and he also spots, analyzes and adopts emerging Web-based marketing technologies.
Before the University of Virginia, Joel was Associate Director for Creative Services at William & Mary. He led a team of professional designers, photographers and project managers to accomplish a wide variety of creative and technical projects. His endeavors included the development of an iPhone/Android app and participating in an overhaul of William & Mary's admission material. Joel also chaired a design-centric subcommittee on William & Mary's Visual Identity project.
Joel was part of a small group charged with reinventing William & Mary's web presence in 2008. He was deeply involved with many aspects of the project including strategic planning, design selection, technical implementation and communication. The results: every W&M website utilizes the same tools and visual design—creating a powerful, fully integrated university web presence.
When he's not working, Joel enjoys spending time outside—particularly camping on the beach or hiking through the mountains of Virginia. He's never met a National Park he didn't like—one day he hopes to visit all 58.
