Joel is the Director of Web Communications at the University of Virginia's McIntire School of Commerce. In this role, Joel oversees the planning and implementation of the school's web strategy. He is responsible for managing McIntire's online brand expression and digital user experience, and he leads web design and content development efforts. Joel is also charged with identifying, analyzing and adopting emerging web-based marketing technologies.
Before the University of Virginia, Joel was Associate Director for Creative Services at William & Mary. He led a team of professional designers, photographers and project managers to accomplish a wide variety of creative and technical projects. His endeavors included the development of an iPhone/Android app and participating in an overhaul of William & Mary's admission material. Joel also chaired a design-centric subcommittee on William & Mary's Visual Identity project.
Joel was part of a small group charged with reinventing William & Mary's web presence in 2009. He was deeply involved with many aspects of the project including strategic planning, design selection, technical implementation and communication. The project resulted in a powerful, fully integrated university web presence that won a slew of national awards. He is currently leading another comprehensive web redesign for the McIntire School of Commerce, scheduled to launch in 2012.
When he's not working, Joel enjoys spending time outside—particularly camping on the beach or hiking through the mountains of Virginia. He's never met a National Park he didn't like—one day he hopes to visit all 58.
