Joel is the Director of Web Communications at the University of Virginia's McIntire School of Commerce. In this role, Joel oversees the planning and implementation of the school's web strategy. His responsibilities include managing McIntire's online brand expression and leading web design and content development efforts. A more integrated social media presence and a cohesive visual identity are among his current projects at McIntire.
Before the University of Virginia, Joel was Associate Director for Creative Services at William & Mary. Under his leadership, his team of professional designers, photographers and project managers accomplished a wide variety of award-winning creative and technical projects. Development of an iPhone/Android app and a complete redesign of William & Mary's admission material are among Joel's favorite projects during his years at William & Mary. Joel also laid the foundation for William & Mary's new visual identity as chair of the project's design sub-committee.
Joel's key role in William & Mary's 2009 re.web project prepared him for his successful leadership of McIntire's comprehensive web redesign in 2012. Strategic planning, graphic design, technical implementation and communication were all aspects in which Joel was deeply involved. Both projects culminated in technically robust, user-centric websites.
When he's not working, Joel enjoys spending time outside—particularly camping at the beach or hiking through the mountains of Virginia. He's never met a National Park he didn't like—one day he hopes to visit all 58.
